Available now — one project

We are looking for one project to join.

Not ten clients. One. We join as co-founder, tech lead or forward deployed engineer, and we stay long enough to be accountable for the result.

Thousands a month on AWS
→ €200

That is our own production workload, not a case study we were handed. We moved it off AWS onto Hetzner, and it runs better than it did before.

If your cloud bill has stopped making sense, this is the work: read it line by line, find what is actually driving it, and show you what each change saves before anything moves.

The workload in question — a pipeline that renders explainer videos like this one, frame by frame, at volume. Exactly the kind of compute that runs up a cloud bill. Watch them on YouTube →

We did this for our own companies first.

Two products, two decades, and the unglamorous parts included.

Co-founded 1999 · sold twice · ran 26 years

MakeupAlley

Co-founded in 1999 and grown into the largest beauty review site in the United States — 2.8 million user reviews across almost 400,000 products. Elchanan Mart led technology and business development through most of its life.

It sold twice, the second time in 2017 to Istyle, the Japanese beauty commerce group. That one came with a post-merger integration that was genuinely hard, and came out the other side working.

Merging two companies' systems is the least glamorous engineering there is. It is also some of the most valuable.

Tiger Algebra

A maths solver used worldwide, with a video pipeline behind it that renders explanations at volume. We write it, we operate it, and we pay its infrastructure bill every month.

That last part matters. Everything we know about cloud costs, we learned spending our own money.

What we take on

Three kinds of problem, and we are happy to be judged on all of them.

Cloud costs

Mostly AWS. Over-provisioned instances and databases, storage that should have aged out, data transfer, idle and orphaned resources, commitment coverage. Or the bigger move — off the hyperscaler entirely, when the numbers justify it.

Technical debt

The upgrade deferred three times, the test suite nobody trusts, the deployment only one person understands, the integration left half-finished after an acquisition. We take it on directly and hand it back maintainable.

Embedded engineering

We join your team properly — your repositories, your tooling, your review process — and ship alongside your engineers. Based in Berlin and available on site, or remote where that works better.

Automation

For any business, not just software ones. A WhatsApp Business agent that answers customers and takes bookings, order and invoice handling, reporting that assembles itself, the repetitive job somebody currently does by hand every week. If it follows rules, it can be automated.

One project at a time.

That is deliberate. It is how we can be accountable for an outcome rather than a timesheet. It may change as we grow — right now, the next one is open.
